An Interesting Weekend in Hawaii

What an interesting weekend!

Because of the big 8.8 earthquake in Chile, we were under a Tsunami warning on Saturday morning here in Hawaii. Luckily it didn't develop into anything more than a small surge though.

I was excited and wasn't worried too much since we live high enough up the hillside to not be affected by a Tsunami. We went to a nearby hillside where there were probably 200+ people gathered to watch and take pictures, but we were so high above Hilo Bay we couldn't even see the surges. We finally gave up and went home and watched it on TV and the Internet.

Here is a short time-lapse video showing the surges. The foot bridge leading over to Coconut Island has been wiped out in every Tsunami to hit Hilo, except of course this one.

While I am relieved there weren't any injuries, deaths or property damage, it was still a let down to only have a small surge. Many people here on the islands feel the same way, so I'm not the only storm junkie ;o).

Some Great Resources for Bloggers

I wanted to share a few sources of good information on blogging. My go to blog for information on blogging has been Problogger for quite awhile now. Darren shares great information on becoming a pro blogger and general tips on blogging.

JohnCow.com is also a good resource geared more toward making money with your blog and Internet Marketing tips.

I found this Top 10 list on Blogs.com interesting and found some really  good blogs I will be revisiting soon. I hope you find something of use.

Blogging Vs. Niche Blogginng - What's the difference?

The biggest difference between  regular blogging and  niche blogging are the topics. A normal blogger will write about several different topics they are interested in, while a niche blogger has a very narrow focused topic. As an example Mary may have a main topic of her blog about her kidsraising kids in general or , while Laura's niche blog is focused on raising kids with ADHD.

Mary's posts may include things loosely related to raising her kids, while Laura's posts are all about the topic at hand. Niche blogs also usually have a variety of products the blogger is promoting directly related to their niche. A regular blogger actually has more advertising options, because they aren't limited to a single niche topic, but the audience won't be as targeted. I hope that makes sense.

Aloha and Welcome to Blogging 31!

I will be posting information and tips on the topics of blogging and niche blogging. I will also, in the next few weeks, be reviewing a new workbook by Darren Rowse (of Problogger fame), 31 Days To Build a Better Blog. Although  I most likely won’t be posting on a daily basis, I will be making frequent posts and following the workbook when possible.

A little about me:

I am attending the College of Southern Nevada via distance learning. I returned to school after working 30 years in the agriculture industry. I am married with 2 kids and 2 step-kids.

I hope you will stop by frequently and that you can find something of use here!

Regards from sunny Hawaii!
